Estate planning starts with asking yourself some fundamental questions about the people you love, your goals, and your assets.

If you have minor children, who would raise your kids if you couldn't? Who do you want to give your money and property to when you die? Who should take care of your beloved pet? What nonprofit organizations do you want to support? What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

About

I'm a single mom and I've been practicing law since 2009. Less than 25 percent of Californians live in traditional “nuclear” families with two parents raising mutual children. The majority of us live in nontraditional families: same-sex, blended, or headed by single parents. Ask about out how your individual family structure will impact your estate plan. If you have minor children, don’t leave them unprotected. Designate a guardian and create an estate plan that will provide for their needs.
